Current Music: "Lazy Eye" by the Silversun Pickups
I now have subscriptions to Interweave Knits (bday prezzie from M&C) and Vogue Knitting (xmas prezzie from Aunt Stevi) and now all I want to do is knit! Not enough time in my life for all the projects I want to make...

I have been working on the Green Gable hoodie from the Fall VK, and it's going so well. I should be able to finish it pretty quickly, thanks to the bulky yarn the project calls for. On the other hand, I have been "working" on the Clessidra stockings since NOVEMBER 2007 and I'm only about halfway done with the first sock. They're beautiful and intricate, but they are also very time-consuming, which makes me not want to work on them. Hopefully once I finish the sweater I will buckle down and finish them.

Yesterday was my fifth knittiversary, and I didn't realize it until today. I did do some knitting yesterday though, so maybe I subconsciously remembered. Anyway, Happy Knittiversary, self!

Crap, I haven't written in here in forever. I blame Ravelry (my user ID over there is respondebatilla, if you want to check out my notes there). I will someday get around to posting pics of the Xmas presents I made and the sweater progress. The second sleeve is nearly finished- only the sleeve cap remains to be knit. Hopefully I can finish it tonight! After that, it's all picking up stitches for the placket and collar. Not long to go!

Look for an update here in the near future. And by near, I mean within the next month. :-)

Kittyville Hat

Current Music: "This Scene is Dead" by We Are Scientists
Yesterday I cast on the Kittyville Hat from the 1st Stitch 'n' Bitch book so that I could have an alternate quick project to complement the sweater. Knitting polygamy can sometimes be very helpful. The hat is knitted on size 7 needles, which is weird for me. I don't think I've knitted on anything bigger than a 5 since I don't even know when. I think the Clapotis I made last summer may have been on sixes. It's fantastic. I'm already more than an inch and a half through after only a couple hours of knitting. And that's in seed stitch, no less, which takes forever, what with switching between knit and purl on every stitch. Anyway, I haven't decided whether I'm going to put the ears on it or not. It seems pointless to make the Kittyville hat w/o the cat ears, but people have been mistaking my age for much younger than it actually is, and wearing a cat hat certainly won't help my mature image. (at a wedding I attended recently, the people who didn't know me thought I was sixteen. Ugh! Oh, and last year a flight attendant asked me if I was old enough to be sitting in an emergency exit seat. You have to be 14 to sit there. Really, I don't think I look that young, but okay.) Ah, but who am I kidding? I firmly believe in the importance of fun headgear and should not shrink from wearing a hat with cat ears on it!

The sweater is coming along, slowly but surely. I still haven't taken any pictures of it, despite the fact that I have a digital camera and it takes almost no time to get such things online. I have such a laziness about taking pictures of my knitting though. Someday soon, with any luck.

There are a couple pair of socks that I am desperate to knit, but don't have yarn or time for. They are Clessidra and bmp, both from Knitty. Clessidra would no doubt take forever, what with all the intricate cabling, not to mention I've never learned to read cable charts. They seem like such a great challenge. Bmp just looks fun. Plus, video game socks, come on! I will just have to put them on the 'to knit' list and hope I get around to them sometime, but probably not until after I plow through this sweater.

Happy Knittiversary!

It's my four year anniversary with knitting! How exciting! I've really come a long way. I just the other day switched to the second skein on my sweater. Here's to many more years of beautiful interactions with the needles and yarn!

Slow and Steady

I finished the 1x1 twisted ribbing and began the waffle stitch pattern on Knitty's Thermal. That means two inches down and something like 12 or 13 inches to go until I get to do something beside straight stitch work. At least the 1x1 rib is out of the way. It is pretty obnoxious and slow-going. Hopefully I will be able to have the sweater done by fall, which would be appropriate.

I've been trying to decide on a small pattern to do, for the sake of having something I can accomplish with celerity. However, I have no idea what I want to make.

That's really it on the knitting front. Life has been really hectic otherwise. Ah well, I do what I can when I can.

I recently finished my first pair of mittens, Knitty's Corazon. Most likely I won't be able to wear them for another half a year, you know, next winter. I'm mostly pleased with the final product. The most challenging part of the project was learning to knit continental so that I could easily alternate between colors. As a result, my tension wasn't up to par. My stitches were uneven in places, because I knit more tightly in continental than in english. Anyway, onto photos and specifications, through hereCollapse )

At long last I have completed my first real lace pattern (I don't count the Clapotis). It is beautiful and I love it. Specs and photos in here.Collapse )

I'm still finishing up the Corazon mittens (Knitty), but once that is finished I expect to cast on Knitty's Thermal, my first sweater. I also still have that yarn lurking around for Knitty's Hush-Hush, and now that I have the right needles I could makde it, but could I handle all that stockinette? I'm not sure. I don't know what else to do with that yarn though.

Last month I cast on Hello Yarn's Irish Hiking Scarf but realized that I wouldn't have enough yarn to finish. I frogged the project and have to find another scarf project for that yarn. The Irish Hiking Scarf would have been my first cable project, but having tried it out, I think I'm capable of a much more complicated cable pattern.

I've been thinking about it recently, and I'm pretty confident that I can execute any pattern I'm given. I think the next step is to design my own patterns. Someday!

I have finished the bottoms of Knitty's Mon Petit Chou. They are currently blocking. I also cast on the bra. I will post pictures of the entire thing once it's all completed! Progress is good.
